MC-21 has provided pharmacy benefits management services to healthcare plan established by the government of Puerto Rico for over 20 years.

Pharmacy benefit management services include the development and management of the drugs lists covered for the Plan de Salud VITAL del Gobierno de Puerto Rico beneficiaries, the development of clinical criteria under which drugs will be approved, and the creation and management of a pharmacy network spanning across the island to facilitate patients’ access to their medications.

• Formulary of Medications Covered (FMC) by Plan de Salud VITAL del Gobierno de Puerto Rico: a comprehensive drug lists developed, maintained and approved by a Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee based on objective parameters of indications, effectiveness, safety, clinical guidelines and costs according to current clinical evidence available in the scientific literature.

• Clinical Protocols: some drugs included in the FMC require a prior authorization (identified with letters PA). All clinical protocols are evaluated and approved by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee to ensure they are clinically appropriate.

• Pharmacy Network: MC-21 manages a pharmacy network, with locations spanning across the island to facilitate patients’ access to their medications. Use the Pharmacy Locator to find a participating pharmacy near you, or check if your favorite pharmacy is a Plan de Salud Vital del Gobierno de Puerto Rico provider. When visiting the pharmacy, remember to take your prescription and your health plan card with you.
